Taxi Fares Are Government Regulated

• The fare sheet must be shown upon passenger request
• Only the published fares may be charged
• Aruba taxis do not use meters
• All pricing is based on fixed zone-to-zone rates
• Taxi fares are officially calculated using: Afl. 1.80 = US $1.00
• Rates may be displayed in U.S. dollars, florins, or both
• The taxi exchange rate is fixed and does not fluctuate
• A government-set minimum fare applies to all trips
• Minimum fare: US $7.00
• Short trips may not be priced below the minimum
• Maximum of 5 passengers per taxi
• Children under 2 years old are not counted
• Published fares apply per vehicle

• Vehicles must display TX license plates

A surcharge may be added:
• Between 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• On Sundays
• On official public holidays
Surcharge: US $3.00 (fixed by regulation).
• 1 suitcase + 1 backpack/handbag per passenger is included
• Airport excess luggage fee: US $2.00 per additional piece beyond the included allowance
• When not traveling to or from the airport, trunk usage incurs a charge
• General trunk use: 2.00 flat fee (e.g., grocery store to hotel)
• Hotel-to-hotel luggage transfers: 2.00 per piece (not flat fee)
• Waiting time may be charged when the driver waits at your request
• Includes errands, shopping stops, or multiple short stops
Official rate:
• US $4.00 per 5 minutes
Passengers should confirm waiting charges before the driver begins waiting.
• Taxis may be hired by the hour
• Hourly rate is government regulated
• Hourly rate: US $50.00
• Price must be agreed before departure
• Drivers may refuse passengers who are wet, sandy, or likely to damage the interior
• This includes swimwear, saltwater, or excessive sand
• Passengers are responsible for damage to taxi interiors
• Damage may include wet seats, stains, tears, or sharp objects
• A fixed damage fee may be charged per incident
• Damage fee: US $60.00 per incident
• Drivers are not legally responsible for lost items
• Items found should be reported to DTP or local police
• Recovery is not guaranteed
• Taxi drivers are not legally required to provide receipts
• Most taxis operate cash-only
• Passengers needing proof of payment should ask in advance
• Lack of a receipt does not invalidate the official fare
• Attaché cases, bags, and carry-ons cannot be charged for
• Any equipment or aid necessary for passenger's mobilization cannot be charged for
• This includes wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and similar mobility aids
• Passengers traveling together as one group are charged a single fare
• If the first passenger does not agree to share the ride, the driver may not take additional passengers who are not part of the same group
• If multiple passengers who are not part of the same group are transported to the same destination (maximum 5 total), the official fare must be divided among the passengers
• Official tariff sheet must be placed in sight for passengers in the taxi
• Passengers have the right to view rates before accepting the ride
• All licensed taxi drivers must comply with these rules
• Violations may result in fines, suspension, or loss of license
• Charging fares outside the official rate sheet is prohibited
• Passengers should note the taxi number and license plat
• Suspected overcharging may be reported to Aruba Department of Public Transportation (DTP)
